CLASS SCHEDULE for 2011
About Us
Since its existence in 1992, ¡Arte Flamenco! Dance School has been dedicated to the art of traditional Flamenco Dance. As teacher, director and choreographer, Elena La Comadre strives to develop dancers and produce works with honesty, integrity and elegance. This approach is embraced by the school as well as the company. Courses run throughout the year with class levels from beginner to more advanced.
¡Arte Flamenco! is a local school that serves an intimate core of dancers and students. Since 2008 the school has been producing several major concerts a year. Our last dance series entitled Viva la Danza (I -V) had tremendous success with sold-out performances.
Description of our class levels are as follows: (this is a guideline only as everyone learns at their own pace)
New Beginner - no previous knowledge of Flamenco. One does not require Flamenco shoes or attire.
Basic beginner - some introduction to Flamenco with knowledge of the basics - posture, arm and hand movements, footwork.
Elementary - students who are comfortable with basic flamenco technique and vocabulary and focusing on enhancing these skills through choreographic sequences.
Intermediate - students who have a good understandings of the vocabulary, technique and various rhythms in Flamenco. Several choreographies are taught during each semester.
Spanish Dance with castanets - some schools refer to this as NeoClassical. - Students who have basic understanding of castanet work and classical technique. Several choreographies are taught in this class.
Location
Our new location is 901 Yonge Street just south of the Rosedale Subway Station or several blocks north from Bloor and Yonge. Due to the limited space in our studio, classes tend to be smaller with fewer students thus allowing for more personal attention from teacher to student.
